Shaped in the Gypsy ghettos around Bucharest, Mahala Rai Banda ("Noble Band from the Ghetto"), gravitates around two poles, a family core of retired soldiers originally from Moldavia.

The first are the sons of the generation that left the little village of Clejan to settle down in the ghettos on the outskirts of Bucharest, grandsons of the late Neacsu. The are between 20 and 25 years old who have grown up playing music and having avoided the pitfalls of drugs and gangs, make a living by playing at Romanians' weddings. Living on the outskirts of a city they have been doused in modern culture which gives their otherwise traditional repertoire a pop twist.

The second, Gypsy as well but from Moldavia (near the Ukraine), have been in the army all their lives, enrolled at the age of 14. Even though in Communist times technically everybody was a comrade, an equal, in reality things were quite different. A darker tone of skin due most likely to a Gypsy heritage was enough for a quick association to be made, sending these youngsters into the seemingly futureless musical ranks

Killer Robot.

An 81-year-old Australian man was attacked and shot dead by an elaborate Killer Robot last Wednesday. The Killer Robot, now in custody, planed the attack from the tubes of the Internets. It spent hours searching the Internets for a way to kill him and, by a reliable source, the Robot downloaded what it needed and then uploaded a complex software to itself that would remotely fire a gun. It installed the software and placed itself in its robotic-driveway about 7 a.m. and started its locomotion.

Notes recovered from the victims body explained that he was meeting a client from the Internets at that particular driveway. The plan worked until the Men at Work heard the gunshots and ran to investigate. The Robot was attached to a .22 semi-automatic pistol loaded with four bullets. It was able to fire multiple shots into the man's head after it activated its software.

MVWT Vision System

The MVWT Vision System operates the four cameras on the ceiling over the testbed and determines the position and orientation of all the robots with hats on the testbed. The vision system will not recognize robots without hats and will not recognize hats that are not near its focus level, which is about 20 cm above the raised floor.

(ABOVE) Currently "owned" by the Tokyo fire department, these "Robokiyu" (sound it out -- it means robot that kills you) bots were designed to "rescue" people from any situation. As you can see, rescuing is as simple as being grabbed by the neck with their throat-piercing arms and dragged into their digestive system (read: rotating blades of death). I, for one, am not going to sit back and wait for the robots to destroy me. I'm fighting back, with a hat (or the closest most hattish-thingy I can find).

today information to balkan dancing:

raving in the black sea
pt 2 of four

The modern dance associated with balkan people, has evolved from the hakken-dance (known from gabber music which was popular in the 90s). The modern dance is also called skiën (lit. "skiing"). Performance by more than one person is the most popular. The legs are the most important part of the body in modern balkan dance. It is performed by a series of forward and backward swings of the legs on the rhythm of the music. The most simple form of dancing can be done as follows:[3]

* The dancer swings his/her right leg forward twice. His/her foot would be at the same height his/her knee.
* The dancer would then raise his/her left leg.
* The dancer then swings his/her left leg backwards. Similar to the original step, the foot would be level with the knee.
* The left leg would be put onto the ground, in front of the right foot.
* The dancer would repeat this.

More difficult paces include those with turns, twists and so on.

Donk, Donk-Donk-Donk, Donk

A pipe/plank-sound, that is used in Bouncy/scouse house/NRG music. Hearing this sound in a piece of music, one can easily recognise the genre of music it is.

The sound is most commonly placed midway between beats, in the same place as hi-hats, but can be put in other places for different effects and such. The music it is used in is usually played between 150 and 160 Beats Per Minute.

When dancing, a donk commonly makes the dancer bounce on the donk beat.

On repeat:

Look into the minds of Telepathe (pronounced "Telepathy", but you knew that) and you might see hippies chanting, morning dew glistening like shoegaze ambience, or a gang gang dancing like the cast of "Soul Train" fucked up on ecstasy and Björk. The Brooklyn group of Busy Gangnes, First Nation's Melissa Livaudais, and Ryan Lucero have turned each of those visions into aural reality over just a handful of official releases to date. "Chromes On It"-- which will appear in slightly different form on the band's forthcoming full-length debut, produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek and expected sometime next year-- finds Telepathe merging a few of those disparate impulses into some kind of chant-encircled alien abstraction of post-FutureSex pop.

Grinding is a type of close partner dance where two or more dancers rub their bodies (especially the genitalia) against each other in a sexually suggestive manner. Grinding is a type of dryhumping, done to music, while both participants are standing. It is popular in the house and hip-hop dance styles. It is often performed at nightclubs and parties that play house and hip-hop music. It has also gained popularity at high school and middle school dances across the Western world, where there have been cases of administrators attempting to ban it.

Dancing which consists mainly of grinding has also been referred to as freak dancing or freaking.

*The national flag of Angola came into use at independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975. It is split horizontally into an upper red half and a lower black half. Like in some other African countries this flag is a modification of the ruling party's flag. The guerilla movement and later governing party, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), used the same design with a golden star in the center. Red stood for socialism and black for Africa. The star was modeled after the red star of the Soviet Union, which sponsored the MPLA. Angola is nearly twice the size of the US state of Texas, or five times the area of the United Kingdom.

*In 2004, China's Eximbank approved a $2 billion line of credit to Angola. The loan is being used to rebuild Angola's infrastructure, and has also limited the influence of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the country. The country is the second-largest petroleum and diamond producer in sub-Saharan Africa, yet its people are among the continent's poorest. According to the IMF, more than $4 billion in oil receipts have disappeared from Angola's treasury in the 2000s. Transparency International's (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 2003 found the governments of Angola and Zimbabwe the most corrupt in Southern Africa. On a scale of 0 to 10 with 0 the most corrupt and 10 the most transparent, TI rated Angola 1.8 and Zimbabwe 2.3, some of the highest corruption ratings in the world. Angola now is China's biggest supplier of oil. In December 2006, Angola was admitted as a member of OPEC.

Give them liberty!

One of new wave's most innovative and successful bands, Devo, was also perhaps one of its most misunderstood. Formed in A-kron, OH, in 1974 by Kent State art students Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh, Devo took its name from their concept of "de-evolution" - the idea that instead of evolving, mankind has actually regressed, as evidenced by the dysfunction and herd mentality of American society. Their music echoed this view of society as rigid, repressive, and mechanical, with appropriate touches -- jerky, robotic rhythms; an obsession with hats, technology and electronics (the group was among the first non-prog rock bands to make the synthesizer a core element); often atonal melodies and chord progressions - all of which were filtered through the perspectives of geeky misfits. Devo became a cult sensation, helped in part by their concurrent emphasis on highly stylized hats, visuals and groundbreaking music videos directed by Gerald Casale.
